M.P. Karygiannis welcomes new immigration

changes for skilled worker class applicants

Toronto, Ontario – Jim Karygiannis, M.P. for Scarborough-Agincourt, today applauded the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration’s important announcement to adjust the pass mark for skilled worker applicants and to change the rules governing certain economic class applicants affected by the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) transitional rules.

Effective immediately, all new skilled worker applicants and those currently in the system who have not yet received a selection decision will be assessed with a pass mark of 67.  (Since the implementation of the IRPA and until today, the pass mark was 75).

“In announcing these changes, Minister Coderre has signaled his willingness to listen to the concerns of his colleagues and their constituents.  The lower pass mark will better enable Canada to attract the much-needed skilled labour force than could be done under the previous pass mark of 75,” said Mr. Karygiannis.  “I’m ecstatic with this amendments to the immigration system as they re-affirm the government’s goal of treating immigration applicants fairly,” he added.
