Oxford Learning Centre/Mississauga East Continues to Support Library Reading Program

Mississauga, ON – The Mississauga Library System is pleased to announce that its popular annual Grade 4 Read to Succeed Program will continue to be sponsored by Oxford Learning Centre/Mississauga East. This annual program invites every Grade 4 student in the City to visit their local branch library, get a library card and explore its many services and programs

The Grade 4 Read to Succeed Program was developed to address educators concerns that by Grade 4 children tend to give up on reading for televisions viewing and video games. This program was created through the support of librarians and school boards across the Province to address these growing concerns and reinvest efforts with students to re-energize their support of reading as a lifelong habit.

The program at Mississauga required funding in 2005 and the Oxford Learning Centre/Mississauga East stepped up to ensure that the program continues to be offered throughout this school year.   This partnership is a good fit. The Mississauga Library System and Oxford Learning Centre/Mississauga East are committed to lifelong learning and the promotion of reading and literacy skills. Oxford’s financial support of this nationally acclaimed Library program ensures that local students can continue to benefit from its presentation.

The Mississauga Library System serves its 700,000 residents through a network of 17 branches. Last year the Library welcomed 4.2 million visitors making it the #1 leisure destination within the City.
