Mary Boufis Filou,
Ph.D. Elected Grand President The
Important Journey Will Continue

BOSTON-The Daughters of
Penelope Grand President for the 2005-2006
administrative year is Mary
Boufis Filou, Ph. D.
"I am honored to have
the confidence of the dedicated and accomplished
women of the Daughters of
Penelope and to serve in the position of Grand
President," expressed
Filou. "I will continue the important journey,
inherited from our classical
forebears, to promote Hellenic values through
our dedication to education
and outreach to those most in need."
Grand President Filou resides
in Islip, New York and is the founding
president of Clytie Chapter
280, St. James, NY as well as the founder of
Aega Chapter 357, Blue Point,
NY. Her service to the Daughters of
Penelope has been an
important part of her life and she has held numerous positions on
the chapter, district and national levels. Grand President Filou is
a past president of the
Daughters of Penelope Foundation.
Grand President Filou expects
a productive and fulfilling year that will
see a proactive Public
Relations/Marketing effort and a revitalized Growth and Expansion
program. The District Governors will meet in Washington, D.C. in September
for a Seminar where the year's programs will be introduced for implementation.
"A family trip to Greece
September 15th will give me the opportunity to
visit the Daughters of
Penelope Chapters in Athens and meet with the
District Governor,"
explained Ms. Filou. The chapter in Sparta, Greece
will host a luncheon in the
Grand President's honor.
In October, Grand President
Filou will travel to Australia to take part in
the National Convention.

Vernon Hills, IL.; Grand
Governor Zone IV Mary Pazeotopoulos, Portland,
OR.; and Grand Advisor Maids
of Athena Dianna Rakus, Seattle, WA.
Grand President Filou
received a Ph.D. from Stony Brook University in
December 2004 in Hispanic
Languages and Literature. She is a graduate of Barnard
College and holds a master's degree from the Smith College School for
Social Work, as well. As clinic administrator for several
Suffolk
County Mental Health Clinics,
Mary established the award winning Suffolk
County Jail Mental Health
Clinic, a model nationwide for jail suicide
prevention. Currently,
as a PT consultant, she counsels and evaluates
Spanish speaking inmates.
Her daughter, Rosemary Filou, is an attorney in Washington,
D.C.
