CELEBRATION OF THE
OPENING CEREMONIES OF THE OLYMPIC GAMES IN MANITOBA

On August 13, 2004, at 10:00 am at the city Hall of Brandon, Manitoba, the
Mayor of Brandon Mr. D. Burgess hoisted the Olympic Flag in front of the
city Hall. The ceremony was attended by the deputy Mayor, Mr. R. Crest,
the
President of the Canadian Hellenic Congress of Manitoba, Dr. P.
Halamandaris, the President of the Brandon Greek Cultural Association, Mr.
M. Issigonis, and many other members of the Greek community of Brandon.
The Olympic Flag was also hoisted on the the MacKenzie Seeds Tower,
overlooking Brandon.
At the same day at 12:00 noon the Olympic Flag was hoisted at the city
Hall
of Winnipeg, Manitoba, by the deputy Mayor, Mr. Gord. Steeves. Present in
the ceremmony were the Honorary Council General of Cyprus, Mr, C.
Ataliotis,
the President of the St. Demetrios Community and Vice President of the
Canadian Hellenic Congress of Manitoba, Mr. Chris. Iacovides, the
President
of the Cypriot Associatio of Manitoba, Mr. Kyriakos Hatjipanayis, the
President of Philoptochos, Mrs Viki Scouras, the President of AHEPA, Mr.
G.
Sotiriadis, and other members of the Winnipeg community.
These celebrations brought the Olympic spirit in both cities and city
officials felt proud for such an event in their city. SAE should be
congratulated for such initiatives.
