                       MINISTER'S AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE

Established in April 2002, the Minister's Award for Excellence is granted by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities to community-based agencies and colleges that deliver the Job Connect Program.

The program helps people plan, prepare for, and succeed in the job market. The services provided include: information about trends in the local

market, support for job searches and placements with employers who are willing

to provide on-the-job training, or connect to higher skills training, such as

apprenticeship.

Locally based colleges and non-profit agencies, such as youth employment

counselling centres and HELP Centres for Adults, deliver the Job Connect

Program, which helps 127,000 people get and keep jobs through more than 127

sites across the province.

The Minister's Award for Excellence recognizes those agencies that

achieve or exceed standards in customer service, effectiveness and efficiency,

and demonstrate the ability to maintain and improve results over time. The

agencies are rated based on four measures: planning, resourcing, measuring and

communicating, as well as their service results.

These measures are closely aligned with the Canada Award for Excellence

administered by the National Quality Institute and the U.S. Malcolm Baldrige

National Quality Award.

Agencies must be achieving or exceeding provincial standards in customer

service, effectiveness and efficiency to apply for the Minister's Award for

Excellence. The award recognizes three levels of achievement: gold, silver and

bronze.

The Minister's Award for Excellence is presented annually and agencies

delivering the Job Connect Program can apply for the award in June each year.
