Ontario Finance Minister Kicks Off Pre-Budget Consultations In Vaughan

QUEEN'S PARK, ON, Nov. 1 /CNW/ - Finance Minister Greg Sorbara is

launching his annual pre-Budget consultations today in Vaughan, the first stop in a province-wide series that continue the dialogue between the McGuinty government and the citizens of Ontario.

"I look forward to hearing from a wide range of Ontarians about ways we can work together to make Ontario stronger and improve our economic advantage," said Sorbara.

The consultations provide the opportunity for Ontarians to engage in a

discussion with the Minister on ways to strengthen Ontario's economic

prosperity, in advance of the 2007 Budget. Questions to participants include:

     -   What can the Ontario government do to continue to foster economic

growth and job creation in the province?

     -   What should the government's top priority be for this year's budget

and how should it be funded?

     -   Are there any programs or services the provincial government provides

         that are no longer needed?

     -   What else can be done to continue to press Ontario's case for

         fairness with the federal government?

"We have made progress in paying down the deficits we've inherited

through disciplined fiscal management and historic investments in health,

education and infrastructure. Now, more than ever, we need to be prudent in our approach to managing Ontario's finances," said Sorbara.

The McGuinty government also continues to call on the federal government for fair treatment for Ontario.

"With fair support from the federal government, Ontario could do even

more to strengthen the economy and improve public services like health,

education and infrastructure," said Sorbara. "We'll continue to press Ottawa to honour its commitments to Ontario, which will help unlock our province's potential for greater economic growth."

Individuals can participate by sending a submission by mail, e-mail, fax, or by filling out an online form.

The next four Pre-Budget Consultations will be held on November 3 in

Burlington, November 6 in Thunder Bay, November 7 in Sault Ste. Marie and November 8 in North Bay. Additional sessions are planned for various locations around the province including Strathroy, London, Hamilton, Trenton, Mississauga/Brampton, Thornhill, North York, Ottawa and Toronto.
