Ontario Still Seeking Fairness From Federal Government

First Budget "Leaves More Questions Than Answers," Bountrogianni
Says
TORONTO,
May 2 /CNW/ - The federal government has presented a budget that raises
more questions than answers in meeting Ontario's priorities and addressing
the fiscal imbalance, says Dr. Marie Bountrogianni, Minister of
Intergovernmental Affairs.
"The federal government has
recognized the fiscal imbalance for the first time, but it missed the
opportunity to act on the fiscal imbalance today. We will continue to make
our case to the federal government for fair treatment for Ontarians,"
Bountrogianni said.
While the federal government
made investments in transit, Ontario is
disappointed
that there was no specific mention of funding for GTA rapid
transit
projects. A number of other important areas, such as manufacturing and
forestry, lack specific answers for Ontarians.
"This is the beginning of a
process, not the end," Bountrogianni said.
"We
look forward to moving ahead from here in building a more productive
working relationship with Ottawa."
