Professor Chris P. Tsokos is the recipient of
President’s Award for Excellence.
Dr. Chris P Tsokos, Professor of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of South Florida, USF, a Tier-1 Research University was recently the recipient of the USF President’s Award of Excellence. This award is given to academicians who have achieved superior performance at USF and elsewhere, whose research accomplishments have received national and international recognition, and whose outstanding contributions are fundamental to the distinction of the University. Professor Tsokos obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering Science and the Master of Science Degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of Rhode Island. He received his Doctoral Degree in Probability and Statistics from the University of Connecticut. Professor Tsokos has participated in special graduate studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Pennsylvania State University. He served on faculties of the University of Rhode Island and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. In 1975Professor Tsokos was named the distinguished scholar
at the University of South Florida. In addition to his academic experience Professor Tsokos has
worked as Project Engineer for Electric Boat, a division of General
Dynamics, which was engaged in nuclear anti-submarine warfare research
systems. Professor Tsokos has served as an advisor/ consultant to
several divisions of the United States government including United States
Army/ Communication Systems, United States Navy/ Underwater Defense
Center, United States Air Force Office of Scientific Research, United
States Environmental protection Agency, United States Bureau of Land
Management, the Committee on World Organization of General Systems and
Cybernetics, among others. He also served on the same capacity at various
academic institutions of higher learning in the United States and abroad.
In 1992 Dr. Tsokos was invited by the Russian Academy of Science asadvisor
and to lecture at various universities, institutes and scientific
organizations, throughout the Republic of Russia. Professor Tsokos, in 1993 was invited by the educational minister of the People’s Republic of China on advisory capacity and to lecture at several universities, institutes and academic organizations in most major cities from South China to the northern region of the People’s Republic of China. Professor Tsokos is the author or co-author of 14 books and research monographs in his areas of expertise in Mathematical Sciences and Statistics. His publications are employed extensively throughout the international academic and scientific communities for educational and industrial use and for professional reference.Over the course of his professional career Dr. Tsokos has published more than230 research papers in outstanding national and international journals. In addition he has written more than 35 technical reports that are commonly used by the scientific community. Professor Tsokos has delivered more than 300 technical
presentations at numerous academic institutions and conferences, both in
the United States and abroad. He has been elected and is currently serving on the editorial
boards of more than ten national and international professional journals
in mathematical sciences. He has directed the doctoral research of more
than thirty students. He has also supervised the advancement of more than
fifty graduate students that have been awarded their Master degrees.
Professor Tsokos is the co-editor of Nonlinear Mathematics, Theory,
Methods and Applications; and the editor of Advanced Series in
mathematical and Engineering Sciences. Professor Tsokos has been honored by multiple professional
societies worldwide. He was
elected Fellow of the American Statistical Association and of the
International Statistical Institute and was also awarded the Sigma Xi
Outstanding Research Award. Dr. Tsokos is listed in Outstanding
Educators in America, Who’s Who in the South, Men of Achievement,
Internatioanl Who’s Who Among Intellectuals, Who’s Who in
Technology Today, Who’s Who of Hellenic Heritage, Sigma Xi,
and in many other distinguished publications. In addition, Professor
Tsokos is a member of several national and international societies in the
Mathematical Sciences and Statistics. He is the recipient of the URI
Alumni Excellence Award in Science & Technology, the USF Teaching
Incentive Program Award, and the USF Professional Excellence Program
Award, the USF Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award, among others. The professor has also served as an advisor/consultant for
several leading private and public international corporations. Dr. Tsokos has been elected to the Board of directors of the International Federation of Nonlinear Analysts. He is the founder and president of the American Foundation for Greek Language and Culture, AFGLC. Finally, he is a member of the Executive Committee of the Bulgarian Academy of Science, UNESCO, JMA, and IFNA for their annual international conferences. He is also Chief Operating Officer of the international consulting company, SAT, Inc, and is serving as CEO for the Florida Hellenic American Chamber of Commerce.
