STATEMENT BY THE CANADIAN OLYMPIC COMMITTE ON
THE ELECTION OF CANADIAN OLYMPIC PRESIDENT TO THE PAN AMERICAN SPORTS
ORGANIZATION'S EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
MEXICO CITY
- Canadian Olympic Committee Executive Director Communications and Chief
Sport Officer made the following statement regarding COC President Marcel
Aubut's election earlier this morning in Mexico City to the Executive
Committee of the Pan American Sports Organization during the 15th PASO
General Assembly:
"As a
sport nation, Canada has a great deal to contribute at the international
level. The Canadian Olympic Committee looks forward to being part of the
PASO team as we work to help ensure that Pan American athletes have the
support that they need and deserve to reach the height of Olympic success.
Our ongoing focus remains the strong representation and promotion of
Canada's values and interests throughout the international sport
community. Canada sought the opportunity to host the Pan American Games
because of its inherent benefit to sport in Canada."
- Caroline
Assalian, Canadian Olympic Committee Chief Sport Officer.
"It is
as honour and a privilege that on behalf of the Canadian Olympic Team, Mr.
Aubut has been elected from among his peers to sit on the Pan American
Sports Organization's Executive Committee. Today's election will help to
build on Canada's already strong presence at the Pan American Sports
Organization and on the wider international stage, including when Toronto
hosts athletes from throughout the Americas at the 2015 Pan American
Games."
- Dimitri
Soudas, Canadian Olympic Committee Executive Director Communications.
