 Seneca's new Faculty of Workforce Skills Development to provide academic upgrading and job training for GTA residents

(Toronto, June 11, 2007) --- In response to the growing demand for programs that provide academic upgrading and job training for adults, youth and internationally-trained professionals in the GTA, Seneca is launching a new Faculty of Workforce Skills Development.

"This new faculty will provide focused, quality training that will allow GTA residents to maximize their job-seeking opportunities and career potential," says Dr. Rick Miner, President of Seneca College. "We will be preparing people to enter the workforce with solid skills, and that will further strengthen our local and national economy."

The Faculty of Workforce Skills Development will provide academic programs, such as:

·   Business Office Skills

·   Academic Upgrading

·   Academic and Career Entrance (ACE)

The new faculty will also deliver employment training services, including:

·   Re-employment Services for International Professionals

·   Job Connect

·   The Mentoring Partnership

·   Testing of Essential Workplace Skills

·   Centre for Entrepreneurship

·   Employment Resource Centres

"The Faculty of Workforce Skills Development, which launches June 18, will build on our already successful academic upgrading and job-training programs," says Stan Talesnick, Dean of the new faculty. "We look forward to expanding our relationships with local businesses and industry to meet the needs of those in the GTA."

The faculty's programs are available at the College's Newnham and Markham Campus, as well as Seneca's six community locations in Newmarket, Richmond Hill, Scarborough, Markham East and North York (Jane St. and Finch Ave.).
