McGuinty Government Launches Review Of Roots Of Youth Violence

Former Chief Justice Roy McMurtry And Former Speaker Of The Legislature Alvin Curling To Lead QUEEN'S PARK, June 11 /CNW/ - Premier Dalton McGuinty today announced that he has asked former Chief Justice and Attorney General Roy McMurtry and former Speaker of the Legislature Alvin Curling to review what more we can do, together, to ensure Ontario's young people and our communities are safe. "We're launching this review because no parent should ever have to worry about losing their child to violence," said Premier McGuinty. "If there is a way we can do even more to make children, schools and communities safer - and help young people make good choices - we have a continued responsibility to do everything we can." The process and parameters of the review will be developed by Mr. McMurtry and Mr. Curling and will be announced shortly. "On behalf of all Ontarians, I want to again express my condolences to Jordan Manners' mother, Laureen Smalls, and to all his friends and family - and to all who have lost loved ones to violence," said Premier McGuinty. "It's my hope and prayer that, working together, we can help prevent this kind of senseless tragedy in the future."
