Dr.
Peter andStella Yiannos MAJOR FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTORS TO
AFGLC
Professor
Chris P. Tsokos, President of the American
Foundation for Greek Language and Culture (AFGLC),
is announcing the philanthropic contribution of $100,000 to AFGLC by Dr.
Peter and Stella Yiannos of Wilmington, DE. This significant financial
contribution has been used to establish “THE PETER AND STELLA YIANNOS
PROFESSORSHIP IN THE GREEK LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE at The Richard Stockton
College of New Jersey.” This name-endowed professorship is in
perpetuity and an integral part of “THE AFGLC-INTERDISCIPLINARY
CENTER FOR HELLENIC STUDIES at The Richard Stockton College of New
Jersey.” Dr. Yiannos, a distinguished industrialist, now retired, is the
President of the AFGLC Center in Delaware-Pennsylvania-New Jersey,
the Tri-State Area.

Peter andStellaYiannos
Dr. Peter N.
Yiannos was born in Ayios Sostis of Olympia (Peloponnese) and immigrated
to the United States in 1951 as a Displaced Person under The Truman
Doctrine. He was sponsored by his maternal uncle Peter G. Valos of Alton,
IL.
He studied Chemical
Engineering at the University of Missouri at Rolla, and did his graduate
work in Wisconsin, receiving a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Lawrence
University (The Institute of Paper Science and Technology).
Dr.
Yiannos worked for more than 35 years for Scott Paper Company in
Philadelphia as a professional and R&D manager, retiring early in 1994
from the position of Vice President in Technology.
Dr.
Yiannos is the recipient of numerous professional honors; he has a number
of patents under his name, and has published in technical and
non-technical journals.
Dr.
Yiannos is an active member of the American Hellenic Institute, the
Hellenic University Club of Wilmington, AHEPA, the Hellenic
Community of Wilmington, and other Hellenic-American organizations.
Ms.
Stella J. Yiannos was born and raised in Chester, Pennsylvania. Her
parents (Demetrios and Irene Baziotes) immigrated to the United States
from Arcadia of Peloponnese (Vlahokerasia and Ayios Petros) in Greece.
She
received a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Fashion Design from the
Philadelphia College of Art (now the University of the Arts).
Ms.
Yiannos is an active member of several Greek-American organizations and of
the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Wilmington, Delaware. She is the
Secretary of the AFGLC Tri-State Center.
The
Yiannoses are the happy parents of two sons, one daughter, and six lovely
grandchildren.
Dr.
Peter and Stella Yiannos are outstanding philanthropists and dedicated “Choregoi”.
AFGLC will remain eternally grateful to their generosity.
