Ontario's diversity key to a stronger economy: McGuinty

TORONTO, June 19 /CNW/ - Ontario Liberal Leader Dalton McGuinty says our province's tremendous diversity is one of our greatest strengths, and is the key to a stronger economy.

"The strength of this province depends on our diversity," said McGuinty. "Our cultural diversity is the key to expanding and our trade and business links world-wide, resulting in a stronger economy, and a stronger Ontario."

Ontario's diversity is the result of immigration, which has had a powerful, beneficial impact on our province.

"Thanks to immigration, we have the most diverse population on the planet. We will leverage our diversity to attract investment, grow our economy, and make Ontario stronger."

The importance of immigration is highlighted in the economic growth section of our platform, because Ontario Liberals recognize it as a strength. In contrast, the Eves Tories mention immigration policy in the crime section of their platform.

Other key parts of the Ontario Liberal plan for the economy include:

    -  Holding the line on taxes while balancing the budget.

    -  Building North America's best workforce, by freezing tuition, doubling the number of apprenticeships in the skilled trades, and removing the barriers facing foreign-trained professionals and trades people.

    -  Attracting new investment in auto and other key industries.

Top financial experts, including a forensic accountant and two senior economists, have signed off on our plan. They confirmed that our platform is prudent and financially responsible.

In contrast, top financial institutions tell us that the Eves Tories are hiding a deficit as high as $2 billion, while at the same time offering $3.2 billion more in tax giveaways to corporations and $500 million for private schools.

"Ontario Liberals will strengthen our province by strengthening our economy."
