Supreme
president’s statement on 80th anniversary of organization’s
founding
WASHINGTON,
D.C. - On the occasion of the 80th Anniversary of the founding
of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA), the
largest and oldest association of Americans of Greek heritage, Supreme
President Dr. James F. Dimitriou has issued the following statement: "On
July 26, 1922, the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association
was born in Atlanta, Georgia. It was formed by eight visionary
Greek-Americans with a common vision and purpose: to establish an
association of mainly, but not exclusive to, American citizens of Greek
descent that would promote education, high levels of citizenship,
fraternal sociability, and to practice philanthropy. Today, it is my honor
and privilege to serve as Supreme President at such a notable time in the
history of our unique and special association. Although our mission has
adapted to meet the ever changing challenges of our dynamic world, AHEPA
remains steadfast, strong and committed to the American Dream, to future
generations of young Hellenes, and to Hellenism as we head into the 21st
century. Finally, on this momentous occasion, I salute and commend our
dedicated volunteer members and resilient chapters without whom our many
accomplishments on behalf of the Hellenic communities to society could not
have been possible." |
