Canadian
Ethnocultural Council Outraged at Hate Crime
Ottawa,
July 15, 2002
- The Canadian Ethnocultural Council (CEC) has expressed
outrage with the horrendous and fatal attack against an innocent man for
no apparent reason other than his religious conviction. This
unprovoked attack at the hands of what appears to be a group of skinheads,
has
sent fear throughout the Jewish community. But it has also sent fear
through all
of us, no matter our background or religion. All Canadians of goodwill
feel the
pain and the hurt resulting from the heinous act. It is an attack of all
of us.
We empathise with and support the Jewish community and stand by them to
rid our
society of hate-crime", says Anna Chiappa, Executive Director.
"The CEC calls
upon the leadership of this country to speak out against anti-Semitism and
all
forms of hatred. There is no place for this in our country." The
Canadian Ethnocultural Council sends deepest sympathy to the family and friends
of David Rozenweich. For
more information contact (613) 230 - 3867, fax (613) 230-8051. The
Canadian Ethnocultural Council is a coalition of 30 national ethnocultural
organizations
which in turn represent over 2,000 local chapters across Canada and
whose mandate is to work towards the elimination of racism and the understanding
of the multicultural reality of Canada. CANADIAN ETHNOCULTURAL COUNCIL
