McGuinty government bringing positive change to children

Roundtable Consultations On Children's Services Begin Today

OTTAWA, Jan. 29 /CNW/ - The McGuinty government is following through on

its commitment to build stronger communities by kicking off a series of

roundtable discussions focused on improving services for children and

families, Ontario's Minister of Children's Services Dr. Marie Bountrogianni

announced today.

"As we build the new Ministry of Children's Services, we have a

tremendous opportunity to create real, positive change in the way we support

our children, youth and families," said Dr. Bountrogianni.

The roundtables, which will be held over the coming weeks across the

province, will bring together community service providers, educators, health

care professionals, police chiefs and many others to gather ideas on

integrating Ontario's wide range of services for children.

"Working with our community partners, we can help give kids the best

start by getting them ready to learn, making it easier for families to access

the services they need for all stages of a child's development, and preparing

youth to become productive adults," Bountrogianni said.

Dr. Bountrogianni emphasized that the government is making children a top

priority, and that she is committed to working with Ontario communities to

simplify and improve the system of supports for children, youth and families.
