internationally recognized
Tampa, FLorida The American
Foundation for Greek Language and Culture is extremely proud to announce
that Rev. Dr. Demetrios Constantelos, honorary
director of the AFGLC Interdisciplinary Center for Hellenic Studies (AFGLC-ICHS)
at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, has been singled
out for two prestigious awards this year. Rev. Dr. Demetrios Constantelos The first is the Medal of the Apostle Paul, granted by Christodoulos, Archbishop of Greece, and the Synod of Greek Bishops. The medal is granted
“in recognition of his pastoral work and his extraordinary contributions
as an author.” The award is being conferred on December 10, 2003, at the
Synodal Megaron in Athens. Dr. Constantelos is hailed by the Archbishop as
“a distinguished cleric and member of the academic community, with
intellectual breadth and a formidable mastery of theological issues.” On
January 11, 2004, Dr. Constantelos is due to be inducted into the National
Society of Literary Authors of Greece, an honor voted him unanimously by
their membership. Established fifty years ago by the most distinguished
authors of the day, the Society continues to maintain an exclusive roster,
including members of the Athens Academy. Honorary membership is limited to
those men and women “who have distinguished themselves in the arts and
sciences, and whose achievements inspire pride and admiration, especially
to those who share the true Greek heritage.” Dr. Constantelos, who
worked tirelessly building up the Hellenic Studies program at Stockton and
supervising its incorporation into the AFGLC family of Interdisciplinary
Centers, was recently honored by supporters of the program and members of
the Tri-State AFGLC. We are proud to have among our active collaborators
such distinguished sons of the Church and men of the intellectual caliber
of Dr. Constantelos. Chris P. Tsokos, Ph.D President, AFGLC 1202 Parrilla de Avila Tampa, FL 33613-5219 Tel: (813)961-1992 Fax:(813)968-9464 E-mail: ctsokos@tampabay.rr.com Website: http://www.math.usf.edu/~profcpt
