OPEN
LETTER- January 5, 2005 Hon. Dalton McGuinty Premier Room 281, Queen’s
Park Toronto, Ontario M7A 1A1 Dear Premier, I would like to thank
you for accepting the number 1 recommendation of Time For Action,
the report I issued on Violence Affecting Youth. I am pleased that despite
your government’s previous comments to the contrary, it is possible to
get these much-needed police officers onto the streets by the end of 2006,
instead of the end of 2007, to make our neighbourhoods safer. I would now urge you
to urgently consider the 21 other recommendations outlined in that report
in order for your government to truly take a comprehensive approach and
effective action to battle crime. I have once again included a copy of the
report. I also note with
interest that you have expressed a willingness to work with Gilles Duceppe
and other federal party leaders on gun crime. I would like to express,
once again, my hope that you would take a similar approach on the
provincial level to work with both Howard Hampton and myself so that we
can adopt an all-party approach to battling gun crime and take action
urgently. We cannot afford any further delay. To that end, I
reiterate my suggestion made to you in my private letter of December 29,
2005 and concurred by Mr. Hampton in a recent letter to you, that the
three of us might meet to discuss this matter and to demonstrate to the
people of Ontario that we can work together on an issue of crucial
importance to them. Sincerely,
John Tory Leader of the Ontario
Progressive Conservative Party cc: Howard Hampton,
NDP Leader
