       ANNOUNCEMENT

TOPIC: Summer camp program in Greece hosted by the General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad (GSGA) for children between the ages of 8 to 12 years old.

 

Date and Location:

The program will take place August 9th to August 23rd 2010 at the GSGA camp located at Malesina, Fthiotidos (Μαλεσίνα, Φθιώτιδος). The camp will be under 24 hour GSGA staff surveillance.

 

Program Includes:

-Lessons of Greek language, history and mythology.

-Excursions and visits to historical, archeological locations, museums and other significant areas.

-Teaching of traditional songs, dances and theatre.

-Swimming programs, athletic activities, painting and craftsmanship.

All expenses, i.e. flight to and from Greece and hospitality (stay, food, participation in educational and recreational programs and excursions), are covered by the General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad.

 

Requirements:

Children of Greek origin are allowed to participate in the program while meeting the following requirements.

  1. One of the parents is of Greek origin.

  2. Must be between the ages of 8 to 12 years old. (Children that turn 12 years old prior to the beginning of camp are not eligible.)

  3. Children must be able and willing to participate in the camping lifestyle.

  4. Must not be children of parents working for the Greek state abroad (except for local staff) or Greeks who are temporarily living outside of Greece.

 

Submission dateline and procedure:

Parents or guardians must be informed of the rules and requirements of their children participating in camp that are reported in the official memo and they must complete the two essential forms.

  1. Application form

  2. Health form for participant, which should include certification of a pediatrician that states the good physical and mental health of the child in order to participate in athletic activities.

Application forms that are not fully complete will not be accepted.

Both parents must sign the application and possible authorizations. In the case of a divorce, the signature of the parent that has custody of the child will be sufficient.

The dateline to submit the application at the Consulate General of Greece in Toronto is March 29th 2010.
