Minister of State Kent Marks Grenada’s
Independence Day
(No. 57 –
February 5, 2010 – 11:45 a.m. ET) The Honourable Peter Kent, Minister of
State of Foreign Affairs (Americas), today congratulated the people of
Grenada as they prepare to celebrate their country’s 36th Independence
Day on February 7.
“Canada
salutes the people of Grenada as they mark their country’s
independence,” said Minister of State Kent. “Our countries have a long
history of close relations based on our shared Commonwealth history and
cooperation in multilateral organizations such as the Organization of
American States and the United Nations. Canada and Grenada also enjoy a
long history of commercial ties and people-to-people links.
“Grenada
plays a significant role in the Caribbean region and is an important
partner for Canada. Grenada, also known as the “Spice Island,”
welcomes many Canadian tourists throughout the year. Furthermore,
Grenada’s diaspora in Canada is an important component of Canadian
multicultural society. The diaspora’s contribution to Canadian society
is highlighted annually at Toronto’s renowned Caribana Festival.
“Canada
remains committed to strengthening relations and future cooperation with
Grenada.”
