 Karygiannis fights for Canada

OTTAWA - The Honourable Jim Karygiannis, Member of Parliament for Scarborough-Agincourt, is speaking out against the Harper/Bloc Motions to declare the Québécois a "nation".

"When my parents immigrated to Canada, they came to the nation of Canada, not a Canada with a smaller nation inside." said Mr. Karygiannis.  "The nation I have grown to know and love is Canada - one nation."

On Monday, November 27, 2006, the Harper government will introduce a Motion in the House of Commons declaring "That this House recognize that the Québécois form a nation within a united Canada".

"Are we going to have a Greek nation within Canada, a Ukrainian nation within Canada, an Italian nation within Canada, or any other nation within Canada?  No. The nation is Canada." Mr. Karygiannis further stated.  "Canada is built on four pillars, the two founding peoples (French and English), the aboriginal peoples and those who come seeking a better life, the immigrants.  We differ from one another, but we are one - we are Canada."
