Canada’s Cricket Team A Newcomer Success Story

Colle and MPPs welcome the Canadian Cricket National Team to Queen's Park.
QUEEN'S
PARK – Ontario
Citizenship and Immigration Minister Mike Colle was joined today by
Premier Dalton McGuinty and Health Promotion Minister Jim Watson in
recognizing the skills and talents of the Ontario newcomers who make up
the Canadian Cricket National Team.
The Canadian Cricket National
Team is ranked 11 th in the world, and has qualified to compete in the
World Cup of Cricket in the West Indies in 2007.
“Cricket is one of
the most popular sports in the world, and a sport that truly reflects
Ontario’s diversity and immigrant success,” said Colle. “The Ontario
members of this team come from all over the world, including the
Caribbean, Uganda, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. These players are a great
example of team spirit and volunteerism.”
Cricket
is played in over 130 countries. Many of Ontario’s newcomers have a
great passion for the game, which now has as many as six million loyal
Canadian fans.
