1ST
FESTIVAL OF SERRES BOUGATSA AND LOCAL PRODUCTS
OF
THE PREFECTURE OF SERRES 2008
A large and
ambitious exhibition will take place in the city of Serres on May 31st
and June 1st 2008.
It is the “1st Festival of Serres Bougatsa and Local
Products of the Prefecture of Serres”, which is organized by the
Serres Chamber of Commerce with the collaboration of the Prefecture and
the Local Union of Councils and Communities of the Prefecture of Serres.
“Bougatsa” is a made
of layers of “fila” pastry, with a filling of cheese, spinach, meat or
cream.
The central point of our exhibition is that we will make the largest
“Bougatsa” in the world, to be recorded in the Guinness book
of records and to make known the “paternity” of this distinguished
product of our Prefecture known not only to the whole of Greece but also
to the whole world.
Furthermore, our basic goal is to publicize the local products and the
traditional Serres cuisine, by recording traditional recipes which are
made with the distinguished produce of the Prefecture of Serres.
During the duration of the event various representatives of the catering
field, such as head chefs, doctors, dieticians, as well as gastronomic
researchers, folklorists, university lecturers and journalists will be
invited to make their own contribution to the gastronomic appreciation of
the products of Serres.
The
full programme of the two days is as follows:
Saturday
31st May 2008
Festival of gastronomy and local products
of the Prefecture of Serres, in the evening in the central Square (Eleftherias
Square) of the city of Serres.
With the participation of the Athens Guild of Head Chefs and housewives
from all the points of the Prefecture of Serres, local traditional recipes
will be demonstrated with brushstrokes of modern creative presentation.
Visitors will have the good fortune to taste original recipes and come
into contact with the great gastronomic potential of the Serres cuisine
and cake and sweet making using local products.

1st June 2008
Bougatsa Festival in the
morning, in an expansive and verdant space, formerly a military barracks,
in the city of Serres.
With the collaboration of professional bougatsa chefs and the Guild of
Head Chefs, the largest bougatsa in the world will be made, in a 20-metre-oven,
with the aim that it should be recorded in the Guinness book of
records.
Parallel
events – Guests
In special facilities surrounding the exhibition site, visitors will be
shown the method of making both “Bougatsa” and “Akané”
(a traditional sweet, made in Serres),
while there will also be an exhibition of local products. Parallel to this
the most important sights of interest to tourists in the Prefecture of
Serres will be spotlighted. The exhibition will be accompanied by parallel
exhibitions of cultural and tourist interest, with themes and activities
for visitors of all ages.
Among those
invited who will honour the event with their presence are important
figures in the field of Greek and international cuisine, authors and
researchers and artists, as well as both Greek and foreign journalists who
will record the event.
The
organization of the Festival is supported by all the Ministries and state
organizations of our country that are concerned with agricultural
production and tourism.
